And say the 3-series is bloated and the heritage of the ///M brand is lost. But you have to admit they still make amazing cars.

You know they lost their way... they said they wanted to make FWD cars.

I WANT ONE!!!
BMW does some crazy crap, but they still know how to make awesome cars. For example, as dumb an idea as the 4 GC is, it looks money. But this M235i might be as close as we come to BMW's core.

I really wish they'd sell those BMW motorsport Puma gloves that are white and black... I could only get the ones that are white and red. NOT AS COOL. /whine

Yeah, but on the other hand it's these cars that bring the money to finance development of cars like this.
Also, a friend of mine (searching for a 2008+ 120i) talked to many 1-series owners. Most of them didn't know their car was RWD. They found it awesome, but bought it without caring. And these are the guys bringing the money.
Pretty much like the Cayenne and the Panamera do for Porsche.

People being stupid/ignorant isn't an excuse to stop doing something the right way. The reality of the situation is that BMW made the 1 series. They are deliberatly letting the driving quality slide in order to make larger profit margins and sell more low end cars. In that case, might as well just buy a Honda or VW.

Well, they never stopped making RWD. The new 1-series is still RWD and it's a very good car.
They're only adding the FWD to the (admittedly overly massive) lineup. I know it ruins their name. But it could be worse.

This is the only car they're making right now that interests me.

I've seen them for sale, once. I can't remember which website, but I've seen them.
I'll post it if I find them.

The point is that they are compromising quality, performance, and their overall brand for more sales. BMW use to be looked down on as a brand many years ago and dug themselves a niche as a high quality line of cars. As soon they start compromising their quality and performance and show they are willing to cut corners just like everyone else to save money/make mass sales, they are no better than VW, Honda, Toyota, etc. That's not really a fight they can win.
Just because something "could be worse" doesn't mean they haven't lost their way.
